kıymet daştan

Kıymet Daştan’s (b. 1980, Istanbul) experiments with form, loaded with conceptual projections, generate questions about memory, legacy and social roles while exploring the poetic horizons of materials. Producing and according to a material presence is a way of thinking for the artist.
 

Daştan graduated at the top of her class from the Sculpture Department of Mimar Sinan University for Fine Arts (2008) and then completed an MA in Design at Milan’s Domus Academy(2014) on a full scholarship. She completed the fellowship of Home Workspace Program at Ashkal Alwan fine art association in Beirut (2019). She recently completed an MA in Sculpture at MSGSU (2021) in Istanbul. She has erected sculptures in various public spaces, opened three solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions in galleries, museums Such as Pera Museum (Crystal Clear /Curated by Elena Sorokina) and public spaces, artist residencies, and symposiums both in Turkey and abroad. She has won various awards such as first prize at the Sabancı Art Award for Sculpture in 2008 and first prize at the JTR Jewelry Design Competition in 2013.
 

In addition to her individual work, Daştan has also provided design, production, and project development support to realize artists’ projects. From 2010-2013 she worked as an artist to produce works according to the vision of Nobel-laureate author Orhan Pamuk to realize his “The Museum of Innocence”, a museum of artefacts from the fictional reality of his eponymous novel. The works she produced for Pamuk’s museum were exhibited at numerous venues abroad such as Somerset House and London Design Museum. During the 14th Istanbul Biennial “Saltwater”, she worked as a project coordinator on both Anna Boghiguian and Michael Rakowitz’s works. During the 15th Istanbul Biennial “A Good Neighbour”, she was the Special Project Coordinator in Mahmoud Khaled’s project. 


Daştan continues her artistic work in her studio in Istanbul.
